As many of my loyal readers may have noticed, I haven’t posted anything in about a week now. That’s because I’ve been sick. Really sick. And I was stupid and stubborn and didn’t go to the doctor to try and shorten the time I spent being miserable. I think I may have had a picture in my head of my immune system being something like the American fighter pilots at the end of the movie Independence Day, sending antibodies flying straight up into the heart of the viral plague that has been wreaking havoc on my body and dealing a swift and deadly blow to the illness. Sadly, it seems my immune cells are not equipped with “green sh*t” to shoot at viruses at will. (And yes, I know it was the aliens, not the fighter pilots, with the “green sh*t,” but work with me here!)
I’m feeling much better now, and I’m trying to catch up on my blogging.
On that note, I have an exciting announcement! My good friend Tiffany and I put our heads together a couple of months ago and came up with what we think is a pretty darn good idea for a new blog. After weeks of work, I’m thrilled to announce that we have launched our new venture: Pink Elephants and Purple Gorillas.
Check out the blog, we are really excited about it! No worries, though, I will still be writing on here as usual.

In order to comply with a recent ruling by the FTC, I’m posting the following disclosure policy for The Table Has Shoes (and Other Ambiguities). You may wonder why I would be doing this, so I will tell you: as I’m sure all my readers have noticed, there are ads and affiliate links running on this blog. Since the FTC ruling is a bit gray in these areas, it just seems prudent to address them!
Disclosure Policy
If you are reading this blog, please assume the following to be true (if there is ever a case where the following is not true, I will explicitly state it within the post):
- Every product I write a post about, or that is linked to within a post, is something I have purchased by myself, for my own use in real life, and was not received for free. However, please assume any link to the product within the post is an affiliate link, which means I could profit from a purchase of said product made through The Table Has Shoes (and Other Ambiguities).
- Any opinion on a product is written without regard for whether I will profit from its sale or not. I do have integrity, and I would never steer my readers the wrong way intentionally!
- My experience with a product or service is not necessarily typical of all experiences with the same product or service. The Table Has Shoes (and Other Ambiguities) and all of its authors cannot be held liable if results differ from what is stated in our posts.
- The Table Has Shoes (and Other Ambiguities) makes every effort to only advertise products, companies, and services with which we have had personal experience. We try to be as selective as possible, and make every effort to block ads that do not have a place on this website.
The decision to run ads and affiliates on this blog was not made lightly, and it is important to me that my readers know this. This disclosure policy will soon become a static page, viewable from the home page, where you will also be able to find a list of advertisers with which The Table Has Shoes (and Other Ambiguities) is affiliated. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who reads this blog for their support and continued loyalty. I love writing The Table Has Shoes (and Other Ambiguities), so it’s heartening to know there are people reading!

If you’re reading this, you have probably noticed that The Table Has Shoes (and Other Ambiguities) has a new look.
I’d like to tell you that this was deliberate, and planned, and that I’m thrilled about the launch of the new look – but that’s just not the case. Because Monday afternoon I was trying to make some changes to my code and got the dreaded white screen of WordPress death. The Table Has Shoes was gone. All that remained was a white screen.
I tried not to panic. I got in touch with Whitney right away, because she recently had the same thing happen to her. She did help, but the longer things went with no blog, the more freaked out I became. Then it occurred to me that I run a backup plug-in on my blog database: wp-db-backup. I felt sure there must be a way to recover my lost blog through this plug-in. And I was right. The backup files saved my blog, and the only data I seem to have lost are uploaded pictures (a pain to replace, but replaceable) and my installed plug-ins (again, a pain to re-do, but also something I can fix). If you are a blogger and you don’t backup your database at least once a week, PLEASE start backing up! I would probably be inconsolable if I had been unable to recover my database, as I imagine any blogger with years-worth of lost posts would be.
I’m still working on a few changes that were long overdue anyway. I hope all my loyal readers approve of the new look – I put many hours into finding something I felt had the best fit – and will bear with me while I continue to tweak things. As always, if you have an opinion, please share!

According to my dashboard counter, this is my 100th post to this blog.
It feels a bit anti-climatic. *shrug* Not nearly as good as the 100th episode of Friends. But I will trudge on anyway!
It’s also my first post of 2009. Being the dork that I am, I have a habit of making secret lists at this time of year – resolution lists with resolutions I never tell anyone I had, to-do lists for the year – you get the point. Keeping with the whole “I’m a dork” theme, I also have a couple of so-called bucket lists committed to paper (actually committed to one of my fabulous Moleskines to ensure their survival for years to come), pieces of which I believe I have mentioned on this blog before. Well, as it turns out, I’m less of a dork than I thought. There is a website called superviva.com whose sole purpose is to enable people to make buckets lists of all kinds and share them with the world. There are suggestions for things you can put on your list to get you started, or you can read other people’s lists and draw inspiration from that. The idea is to look at all you want to accomplish and all you have accomplished and change the way you look at life. Perhaps cheesy, perhaps over-idealistic, perhaps self-indulgent… but also perhaps a way to gain perspective.
I haven’t decided how I feel about this website, or if I’m going to put my secret lists on there. They are, after all, secret. If anyone does decide to check it out, let me know what you think!
